Configuring your Server

Music Server Configuration

Disc Ripper options

Set Ripping Mode

This option allows to choose between the  "Automatic" and "Assisted" ripping modes. Automatic Mode means an inserted CD will start ripping immediately with the metadata automatically obtained from the CD databases without requiring any interaction - all you need is to insert the CD. Assisted Mode allows you to review and change metadata before the CD is ripped. This means when you insert a CD, the server will automatically get the album information and present it on the innuOS Dashboard > Disc Ripper section. You can then confirm the rip or edit the album instead to correct information or adjust to your preferences (such as setting your own genres). This is particularly useful for Classical Music, where the CD databases are more incomplete and users have different views on how they should be classified.

You can learn more about Automatic and Assisted Modes on the Ripping CDs section.

Set Ripping File Format

This option allows you to choose between FLAC (with compression level zero) and  WAV for ripping your CDs.
You can learn more about the WAV and FLAC file fomats on the Ripping CDs section.

Set Ripping Speed

This option allows you to choose between "Quick Mode" and "Quiet Mode". Quick Mode rips CDs at the maximum speed (24X the speed of a CD) and it will usually take about 3-5 minutes to rip a CD. Due to the CD rotation speed, this mode can create considerable noise and vibration on the system, particularly with some thicker and heavier CD pressings, If you enjoy listening to music whilst ripping your CDs, then Quiet Mode will set the ripping speed to 16X. This is considerably quieter but it will take roughly twice the time to rip the CD.
You can learn more about the setting the ripping speed on the Ripping CDs section.

Choose Server Integration

These options allows you to configure the server to work with specific home audio systems.
