Innuos ZENith Special Edition

Building on the award-winning Zenith Music Server, the new Zenith Special Edition (SE) takes your music to new heights.

With a new Triple-Linear PSU designed by Sean Jacobs, custom-wound toroidal transformer and a raft of improvements on EMI shielding and vibration isolation, the Zenith SE picks up the trademark PRaT (Pace, Rhythm and Timing) and neutrality of the Zenith and adds more body to the music, improving the depth and height of the soundstage.

Music becomes more natural, evolving and exciting.

A number of improvements were added for this exclusive 100 units Special Edition:

  • New oversize, custom-wound audiophile toroidal transformer with 3 independent outputs for each Linear Power Supply
  • New Triple-Linear power supply designed by Sean Jacobs using high-end Mundorf caps
  • Three anti-vibration feet with asymmetrical positioning to better isolate vibration without affecting dynamics
  • Audiophile-grade silver-coated and shielded cabling for internal connections, hand-soldered directly to circuits to lower impedance from connectors.
  • Improved EMI protection for the internal components

  • more progress in the quest for high fidelity in digital audio than all upsampling and high-resolution formats combined

The ZENith SE has such low distortion that you can turn the system up as far as you like. It’s so effortlessly relaxed that it brings to mind reel to reel tape, but without hiss. Yes, it’s that good.... It comes back to the old adage that source is king, the server is in effect the turntable and arm while the streamer is the cartridge and the DAC the phono stage. They all matter but if the first part is distorted or just plain noisy then nothing later in the chain can make up for it... If you really want to know just how good audio reproduction in the home can be I strongly recommend that you audition this server at the earliest opportunity. Just remember to turn it up and close your eyes.

  • the quietest and most revealing digital source I have encountered in three decades of reviewing

Epiphany machine. But the reason I wanted to get as much music as possible onto the Zenith SE is that I have never heard better sound from digital audio before. This despite reviewing some pretty spendy DACs and very tasty streamers over the years, all it turns out were limited by the absence of a good enough source despite me using the best that I could lay my hands on at the time.

  • It was like no other digital source I’d heard to date: richer and smoother

I find myself haunted by my memory of its sound. It was like no other digital source I’d heard to date: richer and smoother
The in-house coded InnuOS operating system that underpins all Innuos servers is a joy to use; it takes the geeky pain out disc ripping, library management, sorting file tagging issues and turning on/off Roon serving. If you’re a cashed up new member of the computer audio fraternity, the Innuos should be top of your audition list.

  • It’s a move from skimmed to full cream milk where flavours kick a little harder.

The Zenith MKII SE is as good an example as any that one must spend big, as in vinyl land with turntables and cartridges, to more fully realize the potential of digital audio; and for sound quality to transcend its transmission medium. Pair the Zenith MKII SE with even a modestly-priced DAC and feel the upgrade itch slowly dissolve as you sink back into your listening chair and exhale a pleasurable sigh of relief as music’s tension – and therefore your own – falls away.
